Sustainable transport starts with choice

Road transport remains an essential part of European supply chains. At the same time, customers are increasingly looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprint without compromising reliability or service.

That is why we offer several sustainable transport solutions.

One example is our intermodal transport network, where road transport is combined with rail and short sea shipping. By shifting part of the journey away from the road, significant CO₂ reductions can be achieved while maintaining efficient transit times. Intermodal transport has been part of CG’s DNA for decades and remains one of the most effective ways to make international transport more sustainable.

Customers can also choose HVO biodiesel, a renewable fuel capable of reducing CO₂ emissions by up to 90% compared to conventional diesel. For many companies, this offers an immediate and practical way to lower emissions without changing their logistics processes.

Sustainability is also reflected in the way we optimise transport flows. Through shipment consolidation, multiple customer shipments are combined intelligently, increasing vehicle utilisation and reducing unnecessary kilometres on the road. This approach not only lowers emissions but also contributes to a more efficient supply chain.

In addition, CG invests in double deck trailers, allowing more goods to be transported per journey. Better loading efficiency means less unused space and lower emissions per transported unit.

Sustainable logistics goes beyond transportation

Reducing environmental impact does not stop once goods arrive at a warehouse.

Our logistics operations are designed with sustainability in mind. Both our headquarters in Wijnegem and our logistics site in Venlo operate using energy generated by their own solar panel installations. As a result, both locations are CO₂ neutral from an energy perspective.

The generated energy supports daily warehouse activities, office operations and the infrastructure required to keep goods moving efficiently. By investing in renewable energy production, we reduce dependence on external energy sources while creating a more sustainable foundation for future growth.

We also continue to invest in electric mobility. Charging infrastructure is available across our sites and electric company vehicles are gradually becoming part of our fleet strategy.
